Arabian Nights is a visually stunning Italian film released in 1974, directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Inspired by the tales from the Arabic anthology One Thousand and One Nights, the film weaves together multiple stories set in ancient Arabia. Through a series of 16 scenes, the film explores themes of love and eroticism. Filming took place in Iran, Yemen, Ethiopia, and Nepal. It is the last film in Pasolini's Trilogy of Life, that starts with The Decameron (1971) and The Canterbury Tales (1972). It is frequently considered the best of the Arabian Nights film adaptations. The Trilogy of Life films were commercially successful, but Pasolini turned against them and responded with his final film Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975).
